Orchid Care

As most are aware, I farm orchids. They are very easy to care for, but there are large mistakes to be made. Orchids should be watered weekly, it is important to not over water. If they are planted in bark, they should be soaked in order for the wood to receive enough water. If they are planted in moss, fill them with water then let it drain. The draining is extremely important, if orchids are over watered they will die quickly.

Other tips:

• Keep them in a south facing window
• When not in bloom, clip the stem back to the first notch
• Use orchid fertilizer once a month, when not in bloom
• If leaves are bright green, they are getting idea light
• If the leaves are very light green, they are given too much light; if they are very dark, they need more light
• If orchids are left in direct sunlight, or in excessive heat; they will become sunburnt and die within a few days.
• If roots are growing out the top of the pot, repot them to the bottom
• They should be loosely potted, do not keep the roots too tight
